Here at Sittin’ Purdy, pet grooming isn’t an ‘in and out’, quick lube, process. There are many variables behind the scenes that customers are sometimes unaware of. We work as fast as we can to get your dog returned to you in a timely manner, but most of all we work as SAFE as we can. A dog’s behavior and the condition of their coat are the two biggest determinations of how quickly we can get through our day. If they don’t tolerate the dryer, it elongates the process because we can not properly groom a wet coat. If they don’t tolerate the clippers or having their nails trimmed, it increases their time on the grooming table. Therefore, increasing the time it takes to get to the next dog, and so on. If a dog potties in their crate, it has to go back in line for the another bath, extending its stay. If a dog’s coat is matted, it needs extra time and attention before it’s bath. Some appointments take longer than others. Some days your dog will be done in two hours, other days it could take four. Our availability is very limited due to the quantity of clients we have. If we don’t schedule the high amount of dogs we do in a day, appointment availability would be pushed to months, not weeks. But I promise, they are safe and well cared for while they are with us. If you have a schedule conflict, we will happily work with you to meet that need to the best of our ability.
Our job as a groomer, like your barber or hair stylist, is to maintain the style of your dogs hair cut. We understand mats happen, life gets crazy, dogs will be dogs. However, if home maintenance isn’t part of your dogs coat care routine, we may have no other option but to shave their coat short, not only for their safety, but also for their comfort. If this is the action needed at the time of your appointment, an extra fee will be charged for the extra time it takes to prepare your dog for a bath. Soap and water can not penetrate tightly matted dogs, resulting in an incomplete bath and a poor quality hair cut.
If your dog is matted at the time of drop off, you will be required to read and sign a release form before we begin the appointment.
My sole purpose here at Sittin’ Purdy is the well being and safety of your pet. Should your pet come to me matted and require a close shave to remove those mats, there are things you should be aware of.
These mats have built up over time and shaving them could expose hidden medical problems or aggravate a current condition.
-Irritated skin
-Skin infection
-Sores
-Hairless spots
-Fleas
-Ticks
-Open wounds
Mats pull on your dog’s skin the tighter they get. Because your pet’s skin hasn’t been exposed to clippers, open air, or shampoo, irritation can occur. Even when all precautions are taken, shaving a dog that is severely matted could cause:
-Clipper burn
-Nicks or cuts
-Irritation
-Itching
Shaving double coated breeds could lead to:
-Skin irritation
-Coat not growing back properly
-Color change of the coat
-Texture change of the coat
By signing this waiver you understand the risks of shaving your matted pet. You release Sittin’ Purdy from any veterinary expenses incurred as a result of removing your pet’s matting.
We have plenty of experience with aggressive dogs. We use a variety of safe techniques to do everything we can for your dog. But if their safety or the safety of our staff becomes an issue, we will call and ask for you to come and retrieve your dog. You will only be charged for the services provided. You also may be charged a handling fee.
If we find two live fleas on your pet, they will automatically receive a $10 flea bath. This cuts down on contamination in the building and the spread of fleas to other dogs. You will be notified so you can treat their area at home and any bedding they use while they’re with us.
Have a question or want to schedule an appointment? Call or text 937-594-2728 and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We suggest a consistent booking of every 4-8 weeks, depending on your dog, to properly maintain their coat and insure appointment availability.
